Located on the most beautiful beach in Jamaica, this small luxury hotel was a Hollywood celebrity hangout in the
1950s and ’60s, and still boasts the timeless elegance that earns top travel awards.
JAMAICA INN
Ocho Rios, Jamaica
When Jamaica Inn was recently named top hotel in
Jamaica and number two hotel in the Caribbean by
U.S. News & World Report, it was testament to the
property’s special aura, glorious beach and attentive
service that have appealed to the sophisticated-yet-
unpretentious set for more than half a century.
Marilyn Monroe, Katherine Hepburn, Errol Flynn,
Vivian Leigh and Noel Coward are among noted guests.
The family-owned hotel maintains the intimate
size — 52 suites and cottages — and the hallmarks of
grace and hospitality. Breakfast is served on guest
verandahs, complimentary Planters Punch is offered
on the beach late morning, free afternoon tea and
cakes are served on the terrace, and hors d’oeuvres are
presented during cocktail hour. Couples can book a
private dinner on the beach or moonlight massage.
Taste and style reign in suites and cottages,
adorned in white and Wedgewood blue with antique
furniture. All accommodations have ocean views, best
enjoyed from the open-air living room verandah with
overstuffed seating. West Wing guests can feed the
fish from the verandah railing. One-of-a-kind cottages
are on the beach and ocean bluffs. The newest,
Cottage 7, has 2,200 square feet of space with cathedral
ceilings, four-poster bed, teak floors, infinity-edge
pool on the cliff and staircase to a private cove.
Ocean Spa treatments include fresh ingredients
like guava, pineapple, Blue Mountain coffee and
coconut. The thatched-roof spa has four open-air
rooms, and offers secluded massages on the beach, at
sunset and by moonlight.
Waiters deliver food and drinks on the private,
crescent-shaped beach bookended by a rocky point
and sea cliffs. There are kayaks, snorkel equipment,
sailboats, a tennis court, croquet lawn and pool too.
Evening dining on the terrace is by candlelight
accompanied by live music. Selections for the six
gourmet courses change nightly; Saturday’s highlight
is Caribbean lobster. Guests can also dine on their
suite verandah or at a private table on the beach with
course-by-course service.
