Family Spotlight
FAMILY SPOTLIGHT
FS
On the new Rhine Discovery & Prague trip,
families climb to the spires and gargoyles of
Strasbourg Cathedral, complete a culinary treasure
hunt around Heidelberg and tour Rothenburg’s
Medieval Crime Museum with implements of torture.
On other new tours, families can row a gondola boat
in Venice, try glass blowing, take a ghost walk, play
spy games in Budapest or ride a giant Ferris wheel.
The all-inclusive, multi-generational river cruises
put families in the heart of grand cities and medieval
villages to explore by bike or on guided tours with no
extra fee. Also included are meals, entertainment,
gratuities, scheduled airport transfers, Wi-Fi, onboard
lectures and language classes.
Family departures are scheduled for summer
and winter school vacations, and feature a kid-friendly
menu, game room with Wii or PlayStation, and a
Family Host to oversee kids’ activities. Family pricing
is another incentive — young people between
four and 18 travel at half the cruise-only price
accompanied by an adult on select departures.
Abercrombie & Kent Family Journeys
Span Seven Continents
Abercrombie & Kent recently re-imagined their
Family Journey offerings so explorers of all ages can
choose among itineraries on all seven continents.
Among the 15 unique family itineraries planned
for 2016, five are new. They take in Antarctica,
Australia, Central Europe, Scotland and Ireland,
and Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.
The new Family Australia trip includes a jet-
boat ride in Sydney Harbor, Aboriginal walkabout,
snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, surfing lessons
at Bondi Beach and camel riding in the Outback.
The new Family Yellowstone and the Grand
Tetons includes a whitewater trip on the Snake River,
horseback riding with Montana cowboys, wildlife
watching in Hayden Valley and canoeing in glacial
Jackson Lake.
The company is seeing more family trips
celebrating a milestone birthday or event like high
school graduation. The most popular itineraries for
this purpose is Family Galapagos with panga rides,
kayaking and snorkeling to see wildlife, and the Snows
of Kilimanjaro presenting the opportunity to reach the
summit as a joint goal.
Abercrombie & Kent Family Journeys also take
in destinations like Kenya, Costa Rica, China, Peru,
Tanzania, Italy, Spain and Alaska. The two family
Antarctica trips are aboard a new ship,
Le Lyrial
.
Families can choose between two tour categories.
Luxury Small Group Family Journeys host up to
18 people with five-star accommodations and a
Young Explorers Guide. They offer a savings of
$800 per child on international journeys. The
lower-priced Connections Family Journeys host
up to 24 people with four-star accommodations
and a savings of $400 per child.
