RUMPUS ROOM
(London)
Take in the iconic sites of London — like St.
Paul’s Cathedral, the London Eye and the new
Tate Modern — from this 12th-floor perch with
glass-box bar and outdoor terrace. Opened at the
end of 2014, the Rumpus Room at Mondrian
London is located on the trendy south bank of
the Thames River and affords 360-degree views
from this rooftop perch.
Champagne tops the list of offerings here
and features in specialty cocktails created by the
current International Bartender of the Year,
Ryan Chetiyawardana, known as Mr. Lyan. Pair
the Cucumber in Champagne with a charcuterie
plate to pace yourself.
The posh interior setting evokes the glamour
of 1920s cruise liners with curved, red leather
seating, purple velvet egg chairs, a brushed gold
bar and mod dandelion lights from famed
British designer Tom Dixon. But all the
aristocrats will be on the open air balcony trying
to look nonchalant as they gape at the view.
230 FIFTH
(New York City)
230 Fifth is the quintessential New York
City cocktail experience, the one that elicits
a wow from everyone who steps out on this
massive 21st-floor open-air terrace. The
Empire State Building, Chrysler Building
and sparkling midtown skyscrapers seem
close enough to reach out and touch.
The 230 Fifth experience was designed
by Steven Greenberg of Roxy and
Palladium disco fame, so it’s no surprise
that the trendy scene goes on until 4 a.m.
seven days a week. And that’s year-round
— in the winter there are heaters, cozy red
robes, clear plastic igloos and hot spiced
rum cider to keep guests warm on the
rooftop, while in the summer tropical
palm trees and potted plants frame sunset
views. The inside penthouse lounge one
floor down features floor-to-ceiling
windows, flaming red velour couches and
hot pink lighting with a DJ on weekends
to keep the crowd lively.
Enhance your wow factor with
signature raspberry mojitos and channel
your inner Sinatra.
