THE AFFLUENT TRAVELER
|
Last But Not Least
Born and raised in Cuba, but a resident of the world, Luis Pous started
his impressive career training at the National School of Culinary Arts
in Havana, where he cooked for numerous diplomats and foreign
dignitaries — including at events which were attended by Fidel Castro.
Having arrived in the U.S. in 1997, he made his first home in Miami.
A cookbook author and a guest chef at the James Beard House, and the
George V hotel in Paris, Chef Pous now resides as Executive Chef at the
celebrated Asia de Cuba restaurant in New York City.

LAST BUT NOT LEAST
THERE ARE REALLY TWO
ITEMS I MUST HAVE WHEN
TRAVELING — MY GOLF CLUBS
AND RUNNING SHOES.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE
DESTINATION AND WHY?
The Florida Keys. I absolutely love it there.
In the Keys I can go snorkeling and fishing —
and it really reminds me of living back in Cuba.
WHERE HAVEN’T YOU BEEN
THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO GO?
I would really like to go to Austria and the
French Alps.
WHAT ONE ITEM IS A MUST-HAVE
WHEN YOU TRAVEL?
There are really two items I must have when
traveling — my golf clubs and running shoes.
WHAT IS THE MOST UNUSUAL
GIFT YOU’VE BROUGHT HOME
FROM ONE OF YOUR JOURNEYS?
Olive oil that I had personally pressed and
made while visiting my brother in Italy.
ASSUMING YOU HAVE TIME IN
YOUR BUSY SCHEDULE, WHERE
DO YOU LIKE TO RELAX?
At a hotel on a remote island where I can set
out to explore the local culture, food and scenery.
IF YOU HAD JUST ONE MAJOR
TRIP TO LOOK FORWARD TO,
WHAT WOULD THAT BE?
I would like to travel and tour Europe.
Perhaps take a train or rent a car and drive
throughout the many countries and explore all
the different cities, food, and environments.
