The Affluent Traveler - page 177

The resort’s full-service Dreams Spa by Pevonia® offers
guests a hydrotherapy circuit with every service. Activities
available to guests include daily yoga classes, guided hiking,
kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. And for children and
teens, there is a wide range of supervised activities offered
including daily hiking excursions.
While there is no designated “health-focused menu” at
any of eight on-site restaurants, chefs can accommodate
special dietary requests.
In keeping with AMResorts’ brand-wide commitment to
sustainability, Dreams Las Mareas has achieved LEED
certification and incorporates ecological practices throughout
the resort.
JW MARRIOTT GUANACASTE
RESORT & SPA
Another family-friendly property, the Pacific-side JWMarriott
Guanacaste Resort & Spa is a hacienda-style development
located in the upscale, gated-community of Hacienda Pinilla.
The on-site spa — ranked as one of the top five spas in
Latin America by
Spa Magazine
— allows guests the
opportunity to enjoy indigenous treatments with 100 percent
natural products formulated by a local herb expert. Examples
include the relaxing 90-minute Guanacaste Aromatic Herb
Ritual, and the 30-minute Rice and Tamarind Scrub made
with concentrated ground rice and tamarind seed extract —
both indigenous to Guanacaste.
For guests wanting to maintain their healthy eating habits
while vacationing or others who want to simply sample a
healthier way of eating, Mansita — one of five on-site
restaurants — offers both vegetarian and gluten-free options.
Depending on when you visit you might find dishes such as
Vegan Mushrooms Quesadillas or Fungi Porcini Risotto
on the
menu. For those on a gluten-free diet, there are dishes such as
Caribbean Seafood Casserole
served with coconut rice and
fried plantains.
Beyond the fully-equipped fitness center and complimentary
yoga and Pilates classes, fitness enthusiasts can hit the on-site
trails, including one 18-miles in length, for walking, cycling,
and running. And, for those who simply need to still the mind,
there are guided meditation classes.
Guests who want to indulge in a little local retail therapy
can board the daily shuttle for the trip to the nearby town of
Tamarindo. Cycling seems to be some-what of a national sport
in Costa Rica and Tamarindo offers shops with bike rentals
and tours. And, more for those who enjoy getting off property
