rom lovely tree-lined neighborhoods and a rich
performing-arts scene, to an incredible line-up
of restaurants, fantastic gardens, nature preserves
and museums, Orlando offers unparalleled luxury
experiences and countless places to unwind and enjoy
the slower pace of life that’s all too often passed over
by visitors.
The Affluent Traveler
sat down to talk with Phillip
W. Haddock II, Head Concierge at the Grand
Bohemian Hotel Orlando, to find out what’s hot and
happening in the City Beautiful.
Q
FIRST, TELL US HOWYOUR CAREER
AS A CONCIERGE BEGAN:
A
Most of my career has been in retail and food
and beverage specializing in servicing clientele,
but I always felt limited to how far I could assist guests.
While working at a local restaurant as a maitre d’, the
concierge of the Grand Bohemian Hotel Orlando at the
time called to confirm a reservation. It seemed we
worked seamlessly together in assisting the guest’s
needs and wants. After a light chat, I was asked to stop
by and introduce myself because I showed great
enthusiasm for helping others. This led to the start of a
great career assisting others with a loyal company, The
Kessler Collection, which is also passionate about the
entire guest experience.
Q
WHAT ARE SOME OF ORLANDO’S
BEST-KEPT SECRETS?
A
When thinking of Orlando, most visitors think
of our world-renowned theme parks, but the
City Beautiful has more than fictional characters to
offer. Within walking distance is the start of the See Art
Orlando Walking Tour, a self-guided tour showcasing
a collection of eight permanent contemporary public
art pieces inspired by Orlando’s cultural arts heritage.
Historic Church Street Station, a block away from our
property, is home to the Church Street Ballroom,
Orchid Room, and Cheyenne Saloon. 20 years ago
Church Street Station was the place to be, the energy
can still be felt when walking into these landmarks. For
guests looking to escape and privately enjoy a
handcrafted cocktail, Hanson’s Shoe Repair is a must!
It’s a local speakeasy requiring a password for
admission, live cello performances on select nights, and
an intimate outdoor rooftop space. It is thought that
Hanson’s is located in one of the city’s oldest buildings.
