The Affluent Traveler - page 210

Tell us what you’ve been up to lately.
I just finished filming the14th season of
Bravo’s
Top Chef
in Charleston, South
Carolina, and my new book,
The Encyclopedia of
Spices & Herbs,
comes out on October 4th. I also
just launched a line of frozen organic rices and
lentils last year called Padma’s Easy Exotic.
They’re available at grocery stores like Wegman’s
and at select Whole Foods nationwide. If
they’re not available at your local store, ask
the manager to order them. As a small
company, we rely on word of mouth!
Where do you like to relax?
Preferably at home, in my own bed.
What is your favorite destination
and why?
I love Paris, it has something to offer
everyone, regardless of your budget or
interests. I lived there as a model in my 20s,
and as my interests have changed, so too
has Paris changed with me. It’s a wonderful
place to break writer’s block as well.
Where haven’t you traveled that
you would like to go?
I would love to travel to Egypt
— I’ve always found its history fascinating.
What is a must-have item when you travel?
I carry vitamin C packets wherever I go.
What is the most unusual gift you have
brought home from your travels?
There is a seven-foot-tall cow’s head that
hangs above the piano in my living room that
came from Kerala.
