a private dinner or a couples massage. For children,
there’s the Westin Kids Club with a playground and
activities for ages 4 to 12, a kiddie pool and a resort
petting zoo.
Golfers can play the 27 holes at La Cana Golf
Club designed by P.B. Dye and declared the top
course in the Caribbean by GOLF Magazine, or the
18 holes at Corales Golf Club designed by Tom Fazio
including six oceanfront holes.
Six Senses Spa is a retreat-within-a-retreat,
presenting Asian philosophy, exquisite service and
pampering treatments within eight indoor treatment
rooms. Treatments incorporate local ingredients such
as coconut and honey from the Puntacana Ecological
Foundation, created in 1994 as a commitment to
preserve and protect the local environment. Spa
menu choices include jet lag recovery, papaya body
glow, Thai silk facial, sunburn soother, signature
massages, and couples and golfing packages. The Spa
is included in the Leading Spas collection for Leading
Hotels of the World.
The 1,500-acre Ecological Reserve & Park at the
resort features 12 natural spring-fed lagoons linked
by walking trails alive with tropical plants and birds.
Visitors can swim in five of the lagoons, and see
exhibits on coffee, cacao, sugarcane and medicinal
plants. Guests can go snorkeling or scuba diving from
the Aquatic Center, or go for a cruise or fishing trip
from the marina. The more adventurous might try
the zipline course, Segway Eco Tour or kite surfing.
The fitness center is open 24 hours a day. A free
shuttle bus runs within the resort complex, stopping
at all the attractions, including Puntacana Village
with shops and restaurants. Special events are
accommodated with four meeting rooms including a
3,154-square-foot ballroom.
Wining and Dining
There’s a variety of dining options at the hotel and
within the resort. For convenience, guests eating at
restaurants within the resort compound can charge
meals to their room. Beachside Brassa Grill stands
out with a soaring canopy cover, and combines sea
views with perfectly grilled meat and fish. Anani
Restaurant offers contemporary fare. Children have
a dedicated menu and there’s 24-hour in-room
dining too.
Nearby, Playa Blanca Beach Restaurant and Bar
provides beachfront dining and entertainment. La
Yola at the marina specializes in seafood, while
Bamboo offers Mediterranean cuisine and a AAA
Four Diamond rating.
For libation, the Lobby Bar offers light snacks
with creative cocktails and evening piano music. The
Brassa Bar is known for Mamajuanas and fresh
muddled drinks. Don Queco Cigar Bar has its own
appeal with hand-rolled cigars and an extensive rum
collection. (The Westin is a 100 percent smoke-free
environment otherwise.)
Out and About
Punta Cana is renowned for palm trees and white
sand beaches, and there are plenty of activities
to complement beach time. In addition, the
renowned golf courses in La Romana, the whale
watching off the Samana Peninsula and the Colonial
Zone in Santo Domingo are easily reached for an
interesting day outing.
