BEN FORD
LAST BUT NOT LEAST
LBNL
What is the most unusual gift
you have brought home from
one of your journeys?
A hot sauce made with termites from
Venezuela. Unfortunately it didn’t
make it through customs; it would
have made for some very interesting
bloody marys.
Where do you like to go
when you want to relax
and “chill out?”
It’s hard to pick just one, so I’d
have to pick Mexico, Jamaica,
Uruguay and Jackson Hole,
Wyoming.
If you had just
one major trip
to look forward to, what
would that be?
I’d like to drive through
Mexico and really get to
know the cuisine and the
country more intimately.
What is your absolute favorite travel
destination and why?
I love Spain. I particularly like that the regional
differences are still very apparent in the cuisine.
Where haven’t you been that you
would like to go?
Turkey. I love the history and it’s just outside
my wheelhouse as far as my understanding
of cuisine. I feel it would have a profound
effect on my cooking. Thank goodness
I will have my chance this summer.
A close second is Maine and
Nova Scotia.
What is your must-
have travel item?
My cell phone.
What are your top
considerations when
deciding where to travel?
You’ll find me anywhere there’s
water and really great food.

As the owner and culinary mastermind behind the award-winning Ford’s Filling Station, Chef Ben Ford certainly
knows a thing or two about creating an unforgettable dining experience. His new cookbook,
Taming the Feast:
Ben Ford’s Field Guide to Adventurous Cooking,
focuses not only on bringing people together to eat good,
sustainable, organic food, but gathering lots of people together to eat sumptuous feasts. Ben grew up in a creative,
DIY environment — his mother was a cook and illustrator, and his father, Harrison Ford, was a carpenter
before he became an actor — so he learned the importance of perfecting and respecting craftsmanship.
YOU’LL FIND ME ANYWHERE
THERE’S WATER AND REALLY
GREAT FOOD.
