A SLICE OF FRENCH HISTORY IN PARIS
The landmark Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris
situated just off the historic Champs-Élysées is one
of the most well-known and hotels in the world, so a
spa treatment here is on a totally different level. Yet,
guests are not intimidated, as the warm welcome by
the spa staff puts them immediately at ease.
The prestigious address, within walking distance
of Arc de Triomphe, Place de la Concorde and the
Eiffel Tower, has been synonymous with luxury
since it first opened in 1928.
Inspired by Marie Antoinette, the former
Queen of France, and her love of beauty, the full-
service spa takes guests back to the 18th-century
court of Louis 16th, a time and place associated
with sumptuousness, luxury and beauty. The spa
was added in 1999 as part of a $125 million
hotel upgrade.
The décor throughout the spa and 11 treatment
rooms pays tribute to that slice of history. Furnished
with replicas of period pieces and beautiful wall
murals depicting scenes from the French Court, the
spa seems to beckon guests back to a more relaxing
time. But the pièce de resistance is surely the beautiful,
indoor swimming pool area with its comfortable
furnishings, walls adorned with frescoes of the
gardens of Versailles and the Neptune Fountain,
and pool inlaid with turquoise-colored tiles.
A full menu of services includes a significant
number of body treatments, massages and anti-aging
facials. If she had not met her demise in one of the
most turbulent times in the history of France, Marie
Antoinette would surely have approved and indulged.
