MORE GADGETS TO KEEP YOU CONNECTED,
CONTENT AND COMFORTABLE
When you’re traveling, every extra bit of comfort
and convenience you can find makes a world of
difference. Whether it’s a cross-country road trip or
an international flight, staying relaxed, comfortable
and connected can make your adventure much
more enjoyable.
Besides a laptop and cellphone, ask any seasoned
road warrior what single piece of technology they
cannot live without while traveling, and the answer
will be noise-cancelling headphones. Unlike regular
headphones, noise-cancelling headphones help reduce
noise by electronically canceling out sound waves and
reducing unwanted sounds, like talking, snoring and
engine noise. Noise canceling headphones are helpful
for resting and providing solitude, and they can be used
as regular headphones for listening to the plane’s
audio system, movies, your cell phone or MP3 player.
For travelers who are avid readers, an e-reader
makes the perfect companion as you can fit oodles of
books — including guide books — onto one compact,
lightweight device. Most e-readers have batteries that
can last weeks or months between charges. They fit
easily into a handbag or backpack, so you can take
them virtually anywhere you go. Best of all, there are
thousands of free e-books on the Internet, and you can
save a lot of money and time using an e-book reader.
And if you happen to prefer steamy novels, an e-reader
is discreet and made for your eyes only.
Of course nothing is worse than finding out that
your cell phone, tablet or other device is out of juice with
no outlet in sight. To keep all your gadgets well-fueled
while traveling, a portable battery charger is a must. A
portable charger is essential when traveling overseas as
it helps extend your gadget runtimes in between outlet
charges. All you do is simply connect your device to the
portable charger as you would a wall outlet. You are
then free to move around while your phone or other
device is charging. No longer are you confined to a
wall, sitting still when you need to be moving.
If there’s one thing that can truly spoil your
vacation, it’s an airline losing your luggage, leaving
you with just the clothes on your back for a couple
days or longer. Luggage tracking gadgets, such as the
Trakdot Luggage Tracker and LugLoc, can help you
keep tabs on your bags if any of them go missing. A
separate tracker is required for each checked bag and
a nominal yearly subscription is required (though the
first year is usually provided free of charge). You only
need to register your tracking device online and then
use your cellphone upon landing in your destination
to see that your bag made it onto to the plane and
will be at baggage claim for pickup. If your bag didn’t
arrive and is stuck back home or elsewhere, you can
then contact the airline directly to have the bag
delivered to your hotel.
