WINTER / SPRING 2016
171
You’ve made your New Year’s Resolution. It could be
to lose a few of those extra pounds you’ve gained
over the holiday season. Perhaps you’ve decided
that 2016 is the year to kick-start a new fitness
routine, learn how to make better food choices, or
find about new ways to manage day-to-day stress.
Maybe, you’ve promised yourself to be more mindful
or spend more time in nature.
Whatever the intention, getting away to help kick-start
the process might be the way to go. Here’s what to look
for and expect in a wellness retreat:
p
Clean and comfortable accommodations in a stress-
free environment.
p
A cuisine philosophy built around a menu of healthy
food options. This can be vegan, vegetarian, gluten free
(or a combination of). It can be something a little
out-of-the ordinary such as the macrobiotic diet that
is one of the cornerstones of SHA Wellness in Albir,
Spain. Or, it can be simple and nutritious whole food
offerings with a focus on fresh, local and seasonal.
And, of course, that does not rule out Healthy Gourmet.
p
A program built around yoga or a variety of fitness
options, a learning component (for instance: lectures,
workshops, demos or one-on-one consultations),
plus quiet time for restorative rest and relaxation.
